What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Ivory Coast. They wrote...
"Again, seeing the filth in the streets, and the deteriorating infrastructure. So many wonderful buildings left unfinished or abandoned. I have come to appreciate this place in a very short time, and I find myself wanting very much for it to be reborn as the vibrant city it once was," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
"Expats in Ivory Coast often find the local culture to be quite different from their own, which can be challenging to adjust to. Language barriers can be a challenge, as French is the official language of Ivory Coast, and many locals may not be fluent in English. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to learn, as they may be quite different from what expats are used to. Finally, the climate in Ivory Coast can be difficult to adjust to, as it is hot and humid year-round," commented one expat who made the move to Ivory Coast.
