When we asked expats in Uruguay if common prescription medications are available in Uruguay, they wrote...

"Yes they are available. It is cheaper to get a prescription and pick them up at the pharmacy of the mutualista you belong to. You can also get them at a local pharmacy. if you have the container you often do not need a prescription for common items They are probably similar in price to what I would have paid in Canada," commented one expat who made the move to Atlantida, Uruguay.

"Yes, common prescription medications are available in Uruguay. Most medications can be purchased at pharmacies without a prescription, although some require a prescription from a doctor. The Uruguayan government also provides free medications to those who cannot afford them. In addition, many international pharmaceutical companies have offices in Uruguay, making it easy to access medications from abroad," remarked another expat in Uruguay.
