Are foreigners allowed to own property in New York?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats in New York if foreigners are allowed to own property, they answered...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in New York. Non-U.S. citizens are able to purchase real estate in the state of New York, just like any other U.S. citizen. However, there are certain restrictions that may apply, such as the need to obtain a valid visa or other documentation. Additionally, foreign buyers may be subject to additional taxes and fees, depending on the type of property they are purchasing," wrote a member who made the move to New York.
